Kauai's chickens... they're everywhere! This print is one of Kauai artist, Joanna Carolan's, colorful Kauai moa (the Hawaiian word for chickens and roosters) in various locations around the Garden Island. Painted in watercolors and pastels, and printed on high quality linen-textured, acid free paper, Joanna has designed them to resemble vintage postage stamps; each painting in her series can be identified by the stamp number (1¢, 2¢, 3¢, etc.) The "Kalalau Rooster" is the very first in the series. Each print is matted in espresso brown and available in the two sizes listed above. Collect them all! Kauai's beautiful plumed moa are descendants of the original moa brought to Hawaii by the first Polynesian voyagers. Since the 1950's, four hurricanes have been partially responsible for dispersing traditional, barnyard varieties into the wild. Today, Kauai's moa population is a unique and striking genetic mix of this diversity.
