Our Founder, Joanna Carolan
Joanna first came to Kauai in 1967. She made the Garden Isle her permanent home in 1991. Joanna studied watercolor painting at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and design at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco. From 1989 to 1990 she studied ceramics in Australia with ceramicist Judy McDermott. In 1991, she founded Banana Patch Studio, where her art and designs are handprinted on ceramic pottery and ceramic tiles. Joanna's work is inspired by the Hawaiian culture and the natural beauty of the Hawaiian islands.
