All Banana Patch tiles and pottery are hand painted on Kauai and fired in our on-site electric kilns. Our kilns are run using photovoltaic powered cells – so our pottery is fired using the solar power of the Kauai sun! All our fine art – watercolor and acrylic paintings – are made on Kauai.

Our pottery is hand painted earthenware pottery. Please do not use Banana Patch pottery in the microwave or oven. The reason for this is that it is possible that use in a microwave or oven could cause pottery to crack, or the glaze to “craze” (develop small hairline “crackle” in the glaze).

We recommend hand washing Banana Patch pottery items. The reason for this is that it is possible prolonged exposure to high temperature in a dishwasher could cause the glaze on your pottery to “craze” (develop small hairline “crackle” in the glaze). This is a natural aging process in pottery, and may happen over time. However, exposure to hot and cold temperature changes, which can happen in a dishwasher, can accelerate this process.

Yes, “crazing” or “crackle” of ceramic glaze is a natural process and may occur over time with our hand painted pottery. This will not affect the performance of your pottery piece. If you notice any discoloration due to crazing or crackle in the glaze, this can be removed by filling the pottery piece with a mixture of 1 teaspoon of bleach to 1 cup of water. Let sit for a few hours or overnight and this should remove any discoloration.

Shipping is expensive from Hawaii, however, we always look for the most cost effective shipping method. Once you approve of the international shipping price, we will send you an invoice via PayPal to pay for your order and shipping. International shipping does take time, so please allow some weeks for shipping. We will send you an email with tracking number so that you will be able to track your package when it is enroute to you.
