Patch Studio was started in 1991 by Joanna Carolan. Joanna first
came to Kauai in 1967. She made the Garden Isle her permanent home
in 1991. Joanna studied watercolor painting at the University of
California., Santa Cruz, and design at the Fashion Institute of Design
& Merchandising in San Francisco. From 1989 to 1990 she
studied ceramics in Australia with ceramicist Judy McDermott.
Joanna's work is inspired by the Hawaiian culture and the natural beauty
of the Hawaiian Islands. One of her ceramics was presented
to the President of Tahiti by the Mayor of Kauai in 1994. Joanna's
largest work to date is a 20 foot tile mural she hand painted for
the Embassy Vacation Resort, Ka'anapali, Maui.
